HelloFresh’s website says they offer easy meals designed by professional chefs and nutritionists. They provide over 27 fresh recipes every week to choose from – which in our opinion is just too many options!

In our week, we had Bulgogi Meatballs, Italian Chicken Sandos, and Cherry Balsamic Pork Chops. Each recipe was tasty when we made it. However, they did not reheat very well for later in the week. The best reheated dish was the Bulgogi Meatballs (which we stored separate from the sauce, rice, and carrots). The meatballs stayed juicy and flavorful, the carrots didn’t lose much, and the rice was a little bland and dry to begin with, so that didn’t change much either. The chicken sandwiches suffered from reheating, despite toasting the bun up fresh each time, and the side of roasted potatoes lost a lot in the reheating process as well. The cherry sauce for the pork congealed a bit, and the potatoes were essentially the same as the ones we made for the sandwiches, so suffered the same fate. The green beans lost some flavor, but were ok.

Overall, the dishes were perfectly fine tasting the first night we made them, but didn’t reheat well. We also felt the dishes were uninspired and things that we could have easily come up with on our own. Not to mention, the price and the excessive packaging made the experience not worth it for us.

Bonus: We grabbed a second round of Hello Fresh to give them another shot. This round, we ended up with the Bulgogi Meatballs again, and two new recipes: Pork Carnitas Tacos and Creamy Dill Chicken. The Pork Carnitas Tacos tasted like sloppy joes, the flavors blended together so you couldn’t taste each ingredient individually. There was also no spice from the poblano, so they were a bit underwhelming. The Creamy Dill Chicken was bland, the potatoes were bland, and the green beans were bland. The best part of the dish was the dill sauce, but it tasted nothing like dill – it was more like a mustardy brown gravy kind of sauce. Again, uninspired dishes that we could have come up with on our own and probably executed better.
