Chopped Challenge – Sweet Potatoes, Red Onion, Apples, Kale, Dijon Mustard

Ever watch Chopped on Food Network? (If not, you’re missing out!) We occasionally do little at home versions for fun with the mystery ingredients that we choose. Check out this one we did earlier this year:

Mystery Ingredients:

Sweet potato
Red onion
Apple
Kale
Dijon mustard

Kayla – Fall Sweet Potato Gnocchi with a Butter Mustard Sauce

Find the recipe for this dish here.

Erik – Honey Mustard Pork Chops with Apple Onion Compote served on top of Sweet Potato Kale Hash

Find the recipe for this dish here.

Verdict

The two dishes were very different. Kayla’s vegetarian pasta dish was hearty, buttery, and the perfect mix of sweet and savory. Erik’s pork chops were juicy, tender, and went perfectly with the compote and hash. Both were very composed dishes and didn’t seem to be lacking anything. We both insist that the other person made a better dish, so there was no clear winner this time! If you make either of these dishes (or both!), let us know which you think is best and share pictures with us on Instagram with hashtag #economicaleats.
