Our April Spice Madam box (yes, we are late again) was from Pakistan! We had an appetizer of Aloo Tikki (potato patties seasoned with toasted cumin seeds and cilantro). For main dishes, we had a mung bean soup with caramelized onions called Tadka Daal (made with chili, turmeric, and cumin seeds) and a lamb curry called Aloo Gosht Curry (made with chili, turmeric, and garam masala), both served over Rice Palau (not pictured, made with deeply caramelized onions and garam masala). The dessert was Kulfi Popsicles (which we didn’t make due to the SNOW this week, it didn’t seem fitting) which would have been made with evaporated milk, condensed milk, cardamom pods, and pistachios. Overall, the dishes were spicy and flavorful and very cilantro-forward. Thankful we’re not subject to the gene that makes cilantro taste like soap!
