We’re back with another at-home version of Chopped (you know, the show from Food Network where the chefs are given mystery ingredients to create a meal from). This one was a little more fall-themed with the ingredients, which is perfect for this time of year!
Mystery Ingredients:
Pepper (any variety)
Squash (any variety)
Carrot
Brown mushroom
Rice (any variety)
Kayla – Mushroom and Wild Rice Stuffed Acorn Squash
Kayla used roasted red peppers for her pepper ingredient, acorn as her squash ingredient, and wild rice for the rice ingredient. Find the recipe for this dish here.
Erik – Sriracha Tuna Poké with Gochujang Mushrooms
Erik used yellow bell pepper as his pepper ingredient, zucchini as his squash ingredient, and brown rice for the rice ingredient. Find the recipe for this dish here.
Verdict
While both dishes were really good, we thought that Erik’s Poké took the cake. Admittedly, we just really love sushi, but we really felt like the complexity of the different flavors was much more interesting than the squash dish, which was more one-note. We also can admit that if you put crispy fried onions on something, it’s going to persuade you into liking the dish even more (for real, if you’ve never tried them or have only had them on green bean casserole, you should explore what other foods they are good on – like pizza if you do the Pizza Challenge).
